Board

OCT is governed by a main board and has a network of advisors across science, politics, and business. Key board members include the following:

Neil Mahapatra (Chairman)

Neil Mahapatra is the founder of OCT, with overall responsibility for the direction and strategy of the company.

Neil is a Managing Partner at Kingsley Capital Partners and has over 15 years investment and private equity experience. Before founding Kingsley, he worked at J. Rothschild Capital Management, leading several private investments for Lord Rothschild’s family office and RIT Capital Partners plc. He began his career in healthcare investment banking at Morgan Stanley in London.

Neil holds a BA in Biological Sciences from Oxford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Hee-Dong Kim (Non-Executive Director)

Hee-Dong is a Managing Partner of Kingsley Capital Partners and has over 15 years investment and private equity experience. 

Hee-Dong has strong experience across European healthcare markets, particularly in buy-and-build transactions. He was previously Head of M&A at AMEOS AG, one of Germany’s largest hospital groups and began his career in management consultancy at the Boston Consulting Group.

Hee-Dong is a German citizen and is fluent in English, German and Korean. He holds a BSc from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Tony Marshall (Non-Executive Director)

Tony Marshall is Chairman of Kingsley Capital Partners and a serial investor in private businesses, providing strategic advice to them at the board level. He is also the owner of sports apparel business Westbeach.

Tony is a serial entrepreneur who began his career in Chartered Accountancy at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, advising businesses across Europe. He then built several research and engineering companies in the Midlands.

Tony holds a BA in Accounting and Economics from Bristol University.

David Newns (Non-Executive Director)

David is the Group Innovation Director at Imperial Brands plc, joining the operating executive of the company in 2018.

David has been a key force in the nicotine products industry since 2008, having co-founded e-cigarette manufacturer CN Creative (sold to British American Tobacco in 2012) and subsequently vapour and nicotine product innovation business Nerudia in 2013.

David joined Imperial in 2017 when Nerudia was acquired by Fontem Ventures (an Imperial division).

Karan Wadhera (Non-Executive Director)

Karan is the founder and Managing Partner of Casa Verde Capital, with overall responsibility for the growth, investment strategy and operations of the firm.

Karan has previously held roles at Nomura Group (as Head of Trading in India) and at Goldman Sachs. 

He is an active private investor and adviser for a number of companies and was recently named as one of the 20 rising stars in the cannabis investment world by Business Insider.

Karan holds a BSc in Finance from Babson College.
